Could plentiful numbers of retiress have something to do with the dog to human population ratio in Phoenix, Arizona? In that city known for its dry heat and welcoming sun, two ingredients that quickly get the attention of older citizens in need of relief from northern state winters, canines have a beloved life.

Every two humans in the city own a dog, or so indicates the study done for Dog Fancy's September 2010 issue. A report written by Susan Chaney, a former editor of the magazine, entitled "Atlas A-list" discusses the numbers of canines per numbers of human beings ratio that concludes a one to two count for the city of Phoenix.

The article names Provincetown, Massachusetts as the No.1 city in the nation to live with a canine companion based on the city's reception to dogs and the facilities it provides for the benefit of their citizens' doggie pals.

Phoenix Arizona's Doggie Playgrounds

With a one to two ratio of dogs to humans, and its five dog parks and roamable nature trails, Phoenix, Arizona is one of Dog Fancy's Top Forty doggie playgrounds in the United States. Phoenix is ranked No.34.

More than 60 hotels in Phoenix allow canine companions to stay with their owners. With a citizenry that is comprised of plenty of retirees with animals, Phoenix businesses recognize the value in accommodating the populace's four-legged pals with dog friendly recreation.

Mohave Trail and Thunder Bird Park are two of Phoenix's nearby hiking and walking trails where dogs can romp alongside their faithful owners.
