Phoenix Coyote's Shane Doan and His Hockey Career

BS
Shane Doan has been playing hockey in the NHL for more than ten seasons, and has managed to play them all with the same team. Shane Doan was born in Halkirk, Alberta in Canada on October 10, 1976, making him thirty-two years old. Shane Doan is 6 feet 2 inches tall, weighs 220 pounds, and plays right wing. Shane Doan is a very talented hockey player and his career is proof. Shane Doan started his hockey career in the WHL (Western Hockey League). The WHL is one of the three hockey leagues that makes up the CHL (Canadian Hockey League), which is the highest level of junior hockey in the entire country. Shane Doan played with the the Kamloops Blazers in the WHL during the 1994-1995 season. With this team, he won the Memorial Cup and was awarded the Stafford Smythe Memorial Trophy, a trophy that is given to the most valuable player of the tournament.

After one season in the WHL, Shane Doan entered the NHL Draft in 2005. Doan was drafted by the Winnipeg Jets, 7th overall and was their first-round pick. The Winnipeg Jets were an NHL team based in Manitoba from 1972 to 1996. When the Winnipeg Jets started having financial troubles, the franchise was moved to Arizona, where they became (and are still) known as the Phoenix Coyotes. Upon being drafted, Shane Doan entered the NHL immediately, bypassing the AHL (American Hockey League) completely. In fact, Shane Doan has been playing in the NHL since he has been drafted and has never been moved down to the AHL.

Shane Doan has been with the Winnipeg Jets/Phoenix Coyotes ever since he started playing in the NHL, and did not play during the 2004-2005 NHL Lockout. He is the player that has been part of the Winnipeg Jets/Phoenix Coyotes for the longest amount of time, and is the only Coyote to have ever played with the Jets. In 2004, Shane Doan was selected to play in the NHL All-Star game. He was also chosen to play in the 2009 All-Star game.

In addition to his career in the NHL, Shane Doan has also played hockey for Canada in many international events. In 1999, 2003, 2005, 2007, and 2008, he played for Canada in the World Championships. Team Canada took home the gold medal in 2003, the silver in 2005, the gold again in 2007, and the silver again in 2008. In 2004, Shane Doan also played for Team Canada in the World Cup. In the 2006 Winter Olympics, Doan also played hockey for Team Canada.
