PhoneMyPhone.com: The Best (Free) Web Site Ever
Call Your Lost Phone, Escape Meetings and End Awful Dates Early
Call Your Lost Cell Phone
Everyone loses their cell phone from time to time, and many people no longer have the landline available to help them keep it ringing while they locate it. PhoneMyPhone provides an easy, free, no-ties solution to this problem by calling your phone for you as many times as you'd like. Simply to go www.phonemyphone.com. From their homepage, type in your cell phone number, select the number of times you'd like your phone to be called and click "Call Now". The number of calls allowed ranges from one to ten, but you can stop the calls when you find your phone by simply answering it. You can save yourself the embarrassment of having a friend call your phone over and over. And unlike Skype, there are no credits to buy, and you don't have to give up your name, address, credit card number or other private information (aside from your cell number, of course).
Use It To Play Hooky
While I would hate to be accused of encouraging irresponsible behavior, every once in a while, you've just got to get away. Maybe it's a long, boring meeting, or a lecture. Just set your phone for a reasonable time, and when it rings, politely excuse yourself (due to an urgent call).
Your Blind Date Buddy
When you're going on a first date with someone you don't know that well, it can be nerve-wracking. What if the entire date is painfully awkward? What if he's making advances and not taking a clue? Many people ask a friend to call them at a certain time while out on a date with someone new. If it's going well, you thank your friend and enjoy your date. But if it's not, you can use the call as an excuse to get away from something awkward.
Privacy and Site Abuse
You may be wondering, what about privacy? While they don't have your name or social security number, they do have your cell phone number. For many people, that's a little piece of privacy that they cherish. According to their privacy policy, they will never sell your number to anyone, and you will only receive phone calls when you have requested them. They do have a newsletter, but you will only receive it if you have specifically requested it. Another obvious concern is site abuse - if someone is holding a grudge, they could potentially have your phone ringing all day, every day! It appears PhoneMyPhone.com takes this problem seriously. The homepage specifically requests that users not abuse the service, and that they log all calls and IP addresses. If you are getting unwanted calls from someone through PhoneMyPhone, you can opt to block all calls from them by answering the call and pressing "9".
