Photo no no #1: Not me
Never EVER use anyone else's photo and place it in your photo profile as your own. This is very misleading to others. Keep in mind that they will someday see you in person, and they'll realize that you're not who they saw in the photo. This will automatically send negative signals and confuse them.
Using your own photo will (1) help you find someone who is attracted to you; (2) help the person you've met and would like to date identify you when you actually meet; (3) prove that you're comfortable with who you are (everyone loves that in a person.) Not using your own photo will (1) screw you over when it comes to finding someone who is attracted to you (because the odds are, they're attracted to the person in the photo); (2) confuse the person that is trying to meet you. They'll be looking for the person in the photo, and won't know who you are; (3) show them that you're not comfortable with yourself and send signals that you can't be trusted.
Photo no no #2: Posing...posing...posing...
Be you in the photo, not some stiff pre-posed person. It's okay to smile in the picture and show your true self, but don't go all "pre-posed model" in the picture. Most people like to see an everyday picture (this means showing off what you like to do, such as: smiling and laughing with friends.)
Photo no no #3: Who am I?
It's not a good idea to show you're main profile photo of you and in a group of other people. Try to make it just you. It's very difficult for some people to pick out who you are in the group. It's easier that you send a picture that has only one person in it; YOU! Once the person knows who you are, you can then start to show them photos of you with other people.
Photo no no #4: The invisible
The most common issue with profile photos is that the person is hard to see in the picture. Try to avoid picture of you where you're standing far back; blending in with the background. You want to pop in the picture and be seen. DON'T SHY AWAY!
Photo no no #5: The mirror cracking smile
It's good to have at least one picture of you smiling in your profile. The last thing you want your photo to show is a bad smile. You can look either natural in your picture or like the person who makes babies cry. To avoid a bad smile, try having several pictures taken of you before posting the final choice. This will allow you to warm up to the camera and give you more choices to choose from.
