Daily Performance Graphs - The Good, The Bad And The Ugly

Some Statistical Graphs Are Pleasing To The Eye - Others Are Just Not You Want To See

Tony Payne

We all love statistics don't we, and Daily Performance Graphs help to show us in a pictorial way how our articles are being viewed over time. Some articles follow a typical pattern, but others have graphs that are more dramatic.

Oops, I just looked at the first slide. I looked again. Some graphs look nice.

I hate when my graphs look like this.

With the exception of the prose I've written, most of my article graphs resemble a roller coaster. A lot like life, I think.

It takes time (for most of us) to get some decent page views. It depends on how you promote your articles, whether people think it's worth clicking on, whether they happen to show up at the right time in the search engines. So many factors. As time goes on your fan club on AC will grow, and people will help to promote the articles for you as well. I thought I was doing really well, but the last 6 months traffic has slipped back, despite my attempts to improve things. It's all a learning process.

Most of my articles do poorly, ranging from zero to almost-zero. I have a very few that support the entire library. I think my stuff is, being a lot of humor (supposedly) just isn't going to get traffic. I've been experimenting with humor targeted for Stumbleupon and so far the results are very encouraging. Thanks for sharing this; it gave me an idea on how publish a 2-parter when i write up the final conclusions on the Stumbleupon research and experiments. At first i was just going to do an article, but a slideshow link in the article with the graphs would be great.

I also wanted to wish your wife a speedy recovery, and hope this becomes a distant memory!

I found this slideshow interesting... I've pretty much seen all the graphs and learned to take it with a grain of salt. I find this publishing business can be stressful if you focus on the numbers, so I just publish what I feel like writing about, and hope for the best. ~ Jennifer

Since I'm not able to comment on your article about Debbie's brain tumor, I just picked another one where I could comment. I am so glad to hear that Debbie is doing okay and I will be praying for her continued recovery. Happy 10-month anniversary. May you have many more! :)

My graph doesn't match the page view listings, so I close my eyes when that page opens up, lol.

You are such a numbers person. I knew I liked you for some reason
