It's so hard to watch a grand place deteriorate in front of our eyes. Abandonment was caused by bad weather here. It's even harder to take when its caused by death or a dying economy.

I used to stay at this hotel with my family in the summer of the early 80's I was 14 we stayed at this hotel every year and sometimes ran into the same kids we met the year before from all over, ireland, texas, NC as my sister and i got older we would go off as a group to the boardwalk--my sister still talk about ppl we met there. The hotel was perfect-games room, comfy rooms, always lots going on by the pools, the restaurant and bar always had great food..I am am now 39 and can still remember the clean smell in the lobby and the small tv area we all used to meet in, and the great gift shop which seemed to have everything. I loved the openess of the halls, a warm breeze would flow through, even had a huge pirate at the front above the entrance...I loved this hotel and was sad to see the pictures of how it looks today--my memeories are so vivid as if i was just there yesterday...it really was the perfect family hotel. Such a shame.

I remember when this place was "The Place" in Daytona. I was in Daytona last week and could not believe what it looks like now. It's a real shame it has come to this. I took some pictures of it myself. I love to go through places like this. Next time I think I'll give it a try. I talked to a fellow there and he said that the Hurricanes in 2004 did it in, and it's supposed to be torn down. To bad

I was in Daytona about 30 years ago, when there were no high rise hotels, etc. I wouldn't know it now.

Fascinating! I love old abandoned houses and the stories they can tell. I have never had the chance to explore a hotel before so thanks for the tour. It is so sad to see something that was once grand be in such ruins. Your description of the place made me feel as if I was actually there.
