Drenched In Manhattan

What happens when the heavens open in the Big Apple

Tony Payne

A tropical storm hit Manhattan, and the only way back to the hotel was to take the Tour Bus, and the only space was upstairs. We got drenched and laughed all the way.

You both look pretty happy in spite of the rain!!

I used to think it rained a lot in England until I went to Suriname. Looking at the weather there, the driest month of the year has twice the rainfall of the wettest month in the UK. So that made me feel better. It sure rained heavily that day in Manhattan though.

I moved from England to the US as a child. Every time it rained people would ask me, "Does this make you homesick?"

When you are visiting, you are forced to take whatever Mother Nature throws at you; glad you kept the proper attitude!

We had the most amazing time in Manhattan. The weather was superb, apart from those 6 hours of torrential rain, and it was fun all the way.

Tony, No wonder you are so in love with your gal - she's a cutie pie and brave to venture out in that storm! These are the memories you will always cherish - wet or not! Cheers (loved these!)

Thanks for the lovely comments everyone. We had 4 wonderful days in Manhattan, but for about 6 hours of that, one afternoon and evening, a tropical storm blew through and it was like a monsoon. We had no option but to ride upstairs on the tour bus, and it was hilarious. The guide was pointing out places to the left and right, but all we could do was to try and keep our heads down and hold the ponchos in place. If the hood came off, as mine did at one point, I went to pull it back up and the whole poncho almost flew over my head. You had to sit on it and grip it to try and keep it down, and the rain soaked through everywhere onto the seats no matter what. Then there was nowhere for the water to escape, so every time the bus stopped and started, a 3 inch deep river cascaded back and forth along the floor, and Debbie's feet went underwater. The whole time though, all we could do was to laugh hysterically and see the funny side, which was wonderful, and so "us".
