Gorge Metro Park (Highbridge Trail), Akron Ohio.

Traveler 2010

The Gorge was cut when glacial debris blocked the former route of the Cuyahoga River (near present-day downtown Akron) and caused the river to find a new course. Today, the rushing water flows over a shale riverbed, between ledges made of Sharon conglomerate sandstone.

Thank you for sharing the pictures. I've lived here for years and have always done the Gorge trails (difficult and easy sections) but wondered what was on the other side. I intend to check it out today. It appears that it would be safe for running portions of it. Unlike the other side with all it's rocks, tree stumps, and ledges. Though it's one of my favorite places to hike, despite the nasty odors! I sure wish Akron would do something about that. It's pretty bad on warm days.
