Hi needle felted dogs: The ratio will work, yes! But it's subjective as to whether "quality isn't affected much." What may appear OK to you may not look good to tens of thousands of readers who come by the category pages.

Thanks for including the different aspect ratios :) If a pic is smaller than
470 x 314 pixels, but still fits 1:1.5, will that work for a featured article (assuming quality isn't affected much)?
