When I moved back from New York 35 years ago, I lived in the servants' cottage at the end of the block from my parents' house. Mile & wine crinums bloomed at the back door. They have bloomed in my heart ever since.

    In response to your recent comment, "You bring such zest and personality to these articles... you almost tempt me to try gardening again," I say you should just do it! I didn't have a clue and still managed to grow stuff. Peppers seem to be the easiest, most compact thing to grow, so that would be something simple. :)
