These rock formations were formed by shifting winds and the compression of layers of sand over millions of years. The red color is from the oxidation of elemental iron within the rock.

    I've been to this park and the red rocks are as red as shown in these pictures. It is amazing and beautiful. Couple other things to see in the park.. where the indians hid out and you can see hyrogliphics on the rocks. Pretty cool, well fun, not very cool, pretty hot actually. but a fun place to visit... just make sure you take some water!
