Photoshop Tutorial: Create Embossed Metallic, 3-D Text

A Step-by-Step Tutorial on Creating Embossed Metallic Text in 3D

This tutorial walks you through the steps for creating 3 text that sports a metallic effect, as shown in Image #1

Step #1
Open a new page, and enter the text you want to create a 3D metallic effect on.
Now rasterize the text: right click on the layer then select Rasterize.

Step #2
Select your desired text color using the Photoshop magic wand.

Step #3
With your color selected, contract the selection by 4px.
Select > Modify > Contract

Step #4
Now delete the selected area.

Step #5
Next, open the layer options (Image #2)
Select "Bevel and emboss"
Select "inner bevel" style

Step #6
Select the thickness as 161px and size as 21px (Image #3)

Step #7
Next tick "drop shadow" (Image #3)

Step #8
Set opacity as 25px and distance as 9px.

Step #9
Select "inner glow" to give the shiny nature of metal

Step #10
Set opacity as hundred and select gradient.
Set gradient scheme as black to white: #000000-#ffffff

Step # 11
Select "Gradient Overlay" and there set a gradient pattern of black-white-black-white-black. (Image #4)

Step #12
Set opacity as 100%.

Step #13
You can add any background color to the background layer.
Your text will reflect the background color ((Image #5).

And you are done!

Photoshop Tips: Changing the Color of Your Text
Here are three methods to quickly change the color of the characters in your text block
*Select the character or characters with the text tool, and then simply pick a color in the Options bar or in the Color Palette
*If you have already selected your background or foreground color, then select your text and click on either one of these keystrokes
Alt-Backspace (Windows) or Option-Delete (Mac) to apply the foreground color
Ctrl-Backspace (Windows) or Command-Delete (Mac) to apply the background color
*If you would like to use the same color for all the characters in your text block, then go to the Layers palette and select the layer that has your text. You will then click on the same keystrokes as above
Alt-Backspace (Windows) or Option-Delete (Mac) to apply the foreground color
Ctrl-Backspace (Windows) or Command-Delete (Mac) to apply the background color

Photoshop Tips: Keyboard Shortcuts for Working with your Text
*To highlight an entire word, double-click on that word
*To highlight an entire line, triple-click on that line.
*To highlight an entire paragraph, quadruple-click anywhere on that paragraph
