Phua Chu Kang Sets Up Shop in Malaysia

PCK Sdn Bhd, Best in Singapore, Lagi Best in Malaysia

A new contractor has stomped into town - with his hard-to-miss big yellow boots, curly hair, loud voice and equally loud wife, Phua Chu Kang is back and out to claim a stake in the Malaysian construction scene. A spin-off from the hugely popular PCK Pte Ltd series, the first season of Phua Chu Kang Sdn Bhd (PCK Sdn Bhd) sees the irrepressible gum-booted contractor moving to Malaysia with wife Rosie in tow to start a new branch of his (in)famous construction company. The half-hour 13-episode comedy series is set to bring back more feel good times on Wednesday nights, 8.30 p.m. starting 25th March 2009 on ntv7.

With the Singaporean version running for eight seasons spanning over a decade, the comical antics of the Phua family earned the show a legion of fans from both sides of the Causeway. Following such a successful run, Chu Kang (Gurmit Singh) decides to leave Singapore to start a new life in Malaysia with wife Rosie (Irene Ang). The couple leaves the Singapore office to be looked after by Chu Kang's brother Chu Beng while their children, Romeo and Crystal, are cared for by Ah Ma and Margaret.

Chu Kang hooks up with his one time employee turned millionaire, Izzy (Harith Iskander), who made his millions from selling big burgers. Chu Kang and Izzy form a 50-50 partnership and dream of turning their small construction company into a multi-billion dollar stake holding. But they will have to get past their petty squabbles, egos and cultural differences to reach for the stars.

Chu Kang sets up house at a mansion beside Izzy's own luxurious home at Bandar Botanic, Klang. Izzy's chaotic home consists of his free-loading brood of relatives and Izzy's mother Fatimah (Adibah Noor) - a gossipy, curious and bossy old woman who is suspicious of Chu Kang and Singaporeans in general. Fatimah becomes a maid in the Phuas' new home in order to keep closer tabs on the Phuas.

To add to the mix, Rosie's sexy sister, Suzie (Nell Ng), moves in with them. Suzie is the antithesis of Rosie. Gorgeous and classy, Suzie is the bane of Rosie's existence and they take their sibling rivalry to new heights with Chu Kang always caught in the middle.

In need of workers to boss around, Chu Kang hires Bang (Carliff Carleel), who is all brawn, no brain. An aspiring filmmaker, Bang sees the construction job as only temporary while he works on his award winning film ideas. Before they can even kick off their venture, Chu Kang discovers that Izzy's brother, Fazzy (Fadzlie Rahim), has his own construction firm and is their main competitor.

"As the station known to be the home of Feel Good, we're simply excited to present Phua Chu Kang Sdn Bhd, a well-loved comedy series that's guaranteed to provide wholesome entertainment for the whole family," says Airin Zainul, ntv7's General Manager. "With the show's overwhelming success for the last eight seasons both in Singapore and Malaysia, and our close working ties with Mediacorp, creating a Malaysian spin-off was a natural progression."

Airin adds, "We're additionally thankful for Gamuda Land's generous support as main sponsor in this exciting endeavor. Special thanks also go to co-sponsors Macy's and Super Coffee Mix."

As the Main Sponsor, Bandar Botanic's General Manager, Mr Stephen Goh says, "We are happy to collaborate with ntv7 on one of Asia's most famous sitcoms. Gamuda Land and PCK share a common factor, which is construction. Hence the storyline fits well with Gamuda Land to be part of PCK. I'm sure our residents will be ecstatic to see their development featured in PCK when it comes on air."

Gamuda Land is proud to have its townships, Bandar Botanic (Klang), Jade Hills (Kajang) and Horizon Hills (Johor Bahru) featured in PCK Sdn Bhd, particularly Bandar Botanic, which is the major location for PCK Sdn Bhd's production venue. The set for the iconic PCK mansion is located in Gamuda Land's picturesque gated residential area in Bandar Botanic.

A new country, different cultural norms, a whole mixed bag of characters - will Chu Kang and Rosie survive the move to Malaysia? Grab a dose of humour to lift those mid-week blues with Phua Chu Kang Sdn Bhd on Wednesday nights, 8.30 p.m., starting 25th March 2009.
