Thai food seems to be the craze lately. It seems that every Thai restaurant I have been to in the last few months has been packed. One in particular that I frequent is Phuket Thai in Mililani on the island of Oahu. Phuket Thai is part old school cooking and part modern day restaurant. The hostess and staff wear plain black and white, while the restaurant's ambience is suitable for a romantic date. The lights are kept dim and candles adorn each table.

The food is equally alluring as well as the appearance of the restaurant. For starters I would suggest getting spring and summer rolls if you are vegetarian, but if you like seafood then go for the shrimp rolls, you can also ask for tofu rolls as well. The difference between the two is that one is fried while the other is not.

The non-fried variety comes with a rice paper casing. It also comes with the best peanut sauce this side of the pacific and a sweet and spicy dipping sauce. You also must try the different Tom Yum soups. The soup consists of a light tomato base. You can get it in either seafood or vegetarian. And let me tell you they do not skimp on the seafood version. It comes with hunks of fish, scallop and shrimp. This in itself is a meal.

For your main course try the traditional Pad Thai noodles or their curry dishes. Be sure to let them know how spicy you want it prepared, else you find yourself downing a gallon of water to take the sting off your tongue.

Also if you plan on trying the Thai iced tea, be warned that it is not your traditional tea. This tastes more like a cross between ovaltine and Lipton.

There are many selections that you can make off the menu and I would recommend trying as many different dishes as you can. The only down side is that it can get rather expensive. Dinner for two including soup, appetizer and main dish could run up to almost $40. Not that bad, but if you are on a budget it could put some holes in your pockets. The other down side is if you are trying to get a table on Friday night you may find yourself waiting for a while as they do get pretty packed come the weekend. I would most definitely recommend Phuket Thai restaurant if you ever get the chance to go there.
