Physical Changes from Exericise Take Time

Lisa White ISSA & AFPA CPT
After beginning in an exercise program it's so commonly expected to see a physical change after that first grueling workout. You've spent an hour dripping with sweat, breathing heavy and walking on wobbly legs all to notice that the scale hasn't changed. Although there are internal changes taking place you expected to see a physical change immediately. It's hard not to want to see those changes right away but the end result is going to take longer than you intended. Physical changes in your body will take time but if you're patient it can lead to great benefits with decreased health issues and weight loss. If you're still having a difficult time with holding steadfast here's a couple of things to consider.

Instant Gratification

Reaping the benefits of exercise is something your body will do even when your not working out. Muscle that's been created will act as a natural fat burner and every organ in your body will feel the effects but you may not "see" a change for some time. By the end of the first week you'll mentally feel better but you have to remember that the physical changes you want to see will take longer. Next to the natural high of exercise there is no such thing as instant gratification.

Time Always Tells

Sticking to your workout program will only lead to one thing; a healthier you. Staying on your fitness program will not only change the way you feel but can aid in some of the health issues you may have. Whether the issues include depression or obesity, exercise can reduce the symptoms and help stabilize your moods. You'll also be able to enjoy a higher quality of life by being able to participate in activities you couldn't do before.

Six Months and Going Strong

After beginning a fitness program try your best to give yourself a six month minimum on the amount of time you plan to workout. It's easy for exercisers to stop going to the gym altogether since so many expect to see changes immediately. Usually, it's caused by the feeling of disappointment because the physical changes haven't occurred as quickly as expected.

If you've incorporated a workout program into your life and continue with it, then you'll be able to see a significant change in six months. On the other hand, if you've incorporated a nutritional program, along with your fitness program, you'll see changes long before then.
