You've heard the old adage, "You are what you eat?" I believe that adage to be true, you are what you eat. This is not to say if you eat "fast-food" every day, you become fast-food. If you eat unhealthy foods every day, you will become unhealthy, though! If you eat healthy foods every day, you're far more likely to be healthy.
Your spiritual diet, however, is far more important than your physical diet; eternally more important. Just as it takes great self-discipline to not eat the tempting physical foods that are not good for us, it takes even greater self-discipline - and God's help - to not ingest spiritual "junk-food."
There's plenty of mental junk food out there - for sure, the world is chuck-full of mental junk food. Probably the worst sources of spiritual junk foods are TV, movies and music.
How about you? Examine your TV & movie viewing. Examine what spiritual junk food you allow in your mind from every source. The question we must ask ourselves is this: will allowing this in my mind be good for my mental/spiritual health or harmful to my mental/spiritual health? We must carefully, judiciously, critically, EXAMINE what we allow in our mind through this world's entertainmenst. Rom 8:5-6 says, "For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace". To be carnally minded - to have a carnal diet of this world's entertainment, is DEATH. To be spiritually minded - to have a good spiritual diet, to eat of God's Word, is LIFE & PEACE.
We've got to ask ourselves: Am I eating from God's Word - those words of life that He tells us to eat up, or am I eating from the "tree of the knowledge of good & evil"? This world's entertainment certainly has a small amount of "good" mixed in, but it has MUCH MORE evil and just plain drivel and error than good.
Christ said, in Luke 4:4, that we're to live by every word of God...why? Because, you are what you eat! Like a physical diet, the time to start a really healthy spiritual diet is now - before you lose your "health". I encourage you to pay close, critical attention to your spiritual diet - to everything you take into - or allow to stay - in your mind.
WHY? Because, you are what you eat!!!
