Pick Any Random Day

The need for normalcy worked its way out of me today,
Amid the procrastinated things, the neglected musts put on hold.
If he would just come on, I'd get it all done and maybe save face.
Hurry, I say, but don't rush! You'll attract blue lights by being bold.

I haven't broken a mirror, but did I tie my shoelace wrong?
All is fine, I worry over things really being of no consequence.
Could someone turn on some music? I don't care, just play a song.
Impatiently waiting, pacing, worrying, same as all these "friends."

He's here! I thank God once again for bringing him safely back.
Is thanking Him wrong, since we seek safety for our criminal intent?
As this dawns on my heart, Satan grabs all attention with his sack:
Bartering, money, which runner, which bag, and where and what is sent.

One day I'm in a straight jacket, screaming hideous threats to them all,
Screaming of things which I have no knowledge of, because it isn't real.
At night they let me come out to see all the damage they say that I've caused.
And when they can't help me live with it, I smoke dope and pop another pill.

Yes! I know it's all my fault, Mother! Why else do you think I stay dying?
That's not an excuse! I am willing to try! Well, I'd call if I had something to say!
This tossed up image you have of your daughter simply is not worth me crying,
And the normalcy you speak of fills me with a void that I'll deal with another day.
