Picket Fence Day Bed DIY Project

This easy DIY project tells you how to build a simple day bed using picket fence material from the local home improvement store. You can build a simple picket fence day bed using materials than are pre cut for you.

You will need to know how to use drill for this picket fence day bed, but you can always rent one if you do not own one.

To Build a DIY Picket Fence Day Bed You Will Need:

Picket Fence

Drill

Drill Bits

Screws

Plywood

Bed Frame (metal)

To get started you need to have a metal bed frame. These already have the holes in them, so you can take advantage of these when assembling the day bed. So, go ahead and measure how wide the bed is and how long.

Have 2 pieces of your fencing cut to the same length as the width of the bed. You will need one piece of the length.

Tip: Look for lengths of pre made picket fencing at the home improvement store. These can come in pieces up to 6 feet long, which fits the length of most twin beds. You can cut these down to size with a jigsaw to fit the day bed or have them cut at the store.

Now, lien one end piece of with the head of the bed. Mark where the holes need to be drilled that line up with the holes in the frame of the bed. Continue this on the remained of the sides.

Now, paint out each piece. I like to use white, but wood stains or any paint to color will work just fine.

Once any paint is dry use bolts and bolts to screw and attach each piece onto the bed to form the day bed.

Finally, for more stability look for L brackets at your local home improvement store. You can use 2 on the outside of each corner of the bed. Place one near the top and one near the bottom.

You can also paint out the L brackets so they blend into the painted fence day bed.

If you want to skip the L brackets, then pre drill holes into the wood and use screws to attach them. In this case you will want to make sure the back or long piece of fence overlaps onto the end pieces.

This bed is super easy to make and very affordable, plus the pieces can be used in another project once your child grows out of this DIY fence day bed.
