Picking the best hairstyle for your face shape is not always easy, so I want to give you some tips. The first thing is to figure out what face shape you have. I'm going to give you all the shapes and you decide which one you have.

Each facial type is determined by the position and prominence of the facial bones. There are seven facial shapes 1.oval 2.round 3.square 4.oblong 5.pear-shaped 6.heart-shaped 7.diamond.

Oval- this shape is known as the perfect shape for the face. The contour for the oval shape all other face shapes.
Facial contour: the oval face is longer in length then in width. A person with an oval shape can wear any hair style unless there are other considerations like glasses or the shape of the nose.

Round- With this face shape you want to create an illusion of length to the face. You want a hair style with height, keeping the hair away from the face with bangs to the side.
Facial contour: Round hairline chin line and wide face.

Square- This is similar to the round face with the same problem. Your goal would be to lift the hair with height on top, but unlike the round you want to bring the hair to the face around jaw line and temple to hide the square.
Facial contour: straight hair line, square jaw line and round face.

Pear- With this shape you want to create the illusion of width in the forehead. You want a hairstyle that is full not high you want to cover the forehead. You want a little curl or wave.
Facial contour: Narrow forehead, wide jaw and chin line.

Oblong- You want to make the face appear shorter and wider. You should shape the hairstyle close to the top of the head with curls and bangs. You want fullness at the sides, to create the illusion of width to the side of your face.
Facial contour: Long narrow face, hollow cheeks.

Diamond- You want to reduce the width across the cheekbone. You want height no bangs or a slight side bang, you want to bring the hair in around the cheeks to hide the diamond effect. You want to avoid hairstyles that lift away from the cheeks or hairline.
Facial contour: Narrow forehead, very wide through cheek area, and again narrow at chin line.

Heart- You want to narrow the width in the forehead and increase the width in the jaw line. To achieve this you want a center part with slight bangs that wave back and very soft curls or wave at the jaw line.
Facial contour: Wide forehead and narrow chin line.

This is your basic guide to your face shape there are always more considerations in most cases like glasses or nose shape. But with this guide you can begin to pick the right hairstyle to flatter your features.

I am so picky about getting my hair cut. I have a hard time finding someone I like who will listen to what I want and not what they think I should have.

I'm a guy, so I don't have this problem. Short and easy. That's how I like my hair. LOL. Nice article though.
