Picking Ones Nose in a Public Place!

Is it Me or is This Just Down Right Gross!

Maddy Fox
I have to share this recent experience with all of you. I was visiting family in Puyallup, Washington about a month ago. My two nieces and I were out shopping and decided to grab a quick bite to eat. We decided on Taco Bell one of my favorite fast food restaurants by the way ( yeah I know I'm a cheap date, what can I say!)
Well anyway after placing our order and just starting to savor the first few bites of my crispy taco, I look across from where we are seated, at a young couple maybe in their early twenties sitting at a table for two and sitting directly across from each other. In shock and disbelief I can't believe what I am seeing! The young girl is devouring her food and seems to be intent on the conversation of her lunch date who is not only busy talking but is eagerly picking nose!

Not sure what to say or do if anything, I whispered to both girls, oh my god that guy over there is picking his nose! Trying to avoid embarrassment I assume, they told be to just ignore him. But being me, out spoken and a person of principles, I couldn't let it go. I was just so appalled that this individual had such little regard not only for his lunch date but for those of us who were also trying to enjoy our meal. To make matters worse it appeared to be an on going process, he just kept at it! With the worst part being his need to flick them onto the floor!

So now with my appetite ruined and angry at his lack of decency, I loudly say excuse me but that is very rude to sit here in a restaurant and pick your nose while the rest of us are trying to enjoy our lunch! He muttered something beneath his breath and his lady friend appeared upset. He literally walked out of the restaurant leaving his lunch date to quickly scurry after him.

Was I being rude to confront this individual? I don't feel that I was. For crying out loud, he was seated only steps away from the nearest rest room where he could have easily gotten some tissue and blown his nose, not to mention hopefully wash his hands. Instead he chose to ruin my lunch and in addition spread his snotty germ filled mucus all over the floor.

Excuse me but I feel that when dining in a public place even if it is only fast food, it should come with some common courtesy as well as a show of manners. Is this too much to ask for! Plus I am curious to know, how did his lunch date continue to eat without be totally grossed out! Why didn't she say anything to him? I just don't get it!

What about the poor individual who will now be responsible for cleaning up after this rude guy, especially since I let the Manager on duty know about the incident so it could be cleaned before another guest sat there.

It makes me wonder about all of the places I have eaten and just how clean they really are!
I am sure there are equally disgusting tales to be told, but for me this was the most disturbing to date. Thank you for letting me voice my opinion and whether you feel I was wrong or right in my confrontation, I would love to hear how you would have handled it.
