Deciding on a baby name for your baby is almost like a choosing your baby's individuality. Have you ever wondered how a persons name often reflects their personality? Your name is what molds your personality and some believe has much to do with who you are as an individual. With that said, make sure to pick the best name possible for your son or daughter. Here are some tips on how to come up with the best name for your baby.
1. You do not have to go along with what your family tradition dictates. Selecting the right baby should not be solely based upon what your elderly family members think. You must like the name first so don't be afraid to assert your opinion. Just think, your child will be stuck with whatever name you choose for life. This suggests that you should not settle on any baby name simply because it's what your grandmother or aunt want.
2. Think about your baby's future. You do not want to give your child a child name that will constantly evoke ridicule or allow other children to make fun of them, do you? Do some homework and investigate the meaning of the name you are looking at for your child. A name like Beelzebub should not be considered as a prospective name just because you heard the name on television and thought it was cute. If Rodelfa is a name you chose because your favorite Mexican TV actors name is Rodolfo, it's probably not a good idea. Giving your child a name they can live with is a big deal and should not be taken lightly. Naming your child by saying yes to the first name that pops into your mind or following a fad by naming your child after a particular celebrity is also not a good idea.
3. Your child's initials are another important factor in considering a name for your baby so make sure you read over it before you make a final decision. How about Fran Ursula Catherine Klein? Do you see where this can go? What about Alvin Stephen Stuart? He will surely be careful not to stand near any holes. Christine Sue Irving, huh? What's happening in the next episode? Can you envision the terrible predicament you may put your child through as they grow up?
4. Check your family tree. Sometimes it is unavoidable to get away from a tradition of selecting baby names for your child, especially if you are or were particularly close to a family member and you want to have their name as part of your baby's name. If you decide to follow the tradition of adding a piece of your elderly relatives name to your child's name, make sure that someone else in your family isn't already using the name. To keep down confusion you don't want to choose a name that is already in use by another family member so ask around.
5. Don't go for too much of a good thing. Getting overly creative when thinking about the name of the child can have a boomerang effect without a doubt. For example, unusually unique spellings of a name can be a problem. Your child will have to constantly spell out their name, especially if people are used to a common spelling of the name.
6. When choosing a baby name, be sure to discuss it with your partner. You don't want to always be blamed when people ask who chose such a horrible baby name, right? Sharing responsibility is a good way to increase your bond as a couple and the possibility of attaining an even better baby name. Two heads are better than one when finding a fitting name for your baby.
Pacifying relatives and friends, avoiding embarrassing initials and repulsive meanings and sound are some of the main issues that should be carefully thought out in trying to determine a baby. This can be somewhat strenuous. But if you take your time and do a little research, your baby may just thank you when they get older and realize all that you went through to ensure they had a painless, ridicule free life. Good luck!
