Picking the Right 7th Generation Console

Bruce Bostwick
As of right now, only three main competitors exist and that being Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft. Each have there own systems but with different items to separate themselves and make them stand out. For Nintendo, they have the Wii Remote or sometimes nicknamed the Wiimote, which challengers to play in a new light with some gameplay requiring motion with a motion sensor. With the Playstation 3, it uses a new technology and is higher than a normal CD in a Blu Ray Disc. With the X-Box 360, it has an X-Box Live Arcade, which actually has been used to distribute arcade video games to the X-Box and the 360. Also, each of the three consoles respectively has a different mind set on what they are looking to accomplish. Nintendo is on redemption and wants to change the way that we as gamers play games. Microsoft to me is actually trying to bridge the gap between regular computers and gaming consoles. Sony I believe is trying to market to those that want to have a system that can be more than a console but also a DVD player mainly. The question remains is which one of these three would be the absolute best system to buy. While I can't give you a direct answer, I can however give you ideas on what you should look for when deciding on the system you want.

Price

When it comes to pricing out the systems, that always plays a factor when it comes to buying the next console. As of this very moment, the Nintendo Wii is out for $250, The X-Box 360 is out for $400 for the Premium Edition, $300 for the Core Edition, and $480 for the Elite Edition, and the Playstation 3 is out for $500 with the 60 GB Version and for the 80 GB one, it is going to be $600. For those who probably would be interested in the PS3 could possibly be a bit leery as far as buying it due to the expensive price tag put on it. If price is to be a major consideration, then in this case, sometimes the cheapest system might be the best choice but there are exceptions and that will be covered as well. As far as price being a main factor in picking the next generation console, the winner for that would go to the Wii.

Graphics

The Wii right now doesn't exactly push the graphics boundaries to the limit like the prime competitors. If you judge based on pure graphics alone, you probably will want to pick up either a PS3 or a 360. Sony has pushed it pretty far with one series noted as the WWE Smackdown vs. Raw series. Those wrestling games and of course just about any sports games has made it look to have the look of CG I believe. The level between Sony and Microsoft are actually even in that level depending on viewpoint. The winners for that would be the PS3 and X-Box 360.

Features

Each system has different items that make them stand out but have something in common, backwards compatibility. The Wii can play Gamecube games, the PS3 can play games back to the PS1, and the 360 can play games through the X-Box. The big difference between each of them relies on what it offers. The Wii offers a Virtual Console, where you can download NES, SNES, N64, Genesis, and TurboGrafix, MSX, and soon Neo Geo. They do come at a price though but if you're interested in doing something like this and getting them on the Wii, then by all means do it. With the PS3, the biggest difference that makes them stand out is the Blu Ray Discs. As stated before, it's a higher definition than a normal CD so it is an experiment to see if this could also lead to the new type of CDs to buy for your games. With the 360, it does have the X-Box Arcade. All systems have the ability to go online. The Wii of course is different with its controller that is unique and uses motion and operates with Wii channels and parental controls. As far as who has the advantage, the best answer would be each has their own unique features but it depends on what you're looking for exactly on that.

Video Game Library

Obviously, this is the most important aspect of any video game system ever created. When buying a system, the games that are offered are a key selling point. It is useless in my own personal opinion to buy a system based purely on one game for instance. Look at your options on that and also notable franchises as well. Also, if a game is exclusive to a system or a series and that's something you like, and then go for it. With Nintendo, there are exclusives like Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Fire Emblem, and other games as well. If you are into those type of games, then the Wii is for you on that and if you want to play your Gamecube games on there, go for that by all means. Not to state that Microsoft doesn't have its own exclusives, it's most notable and perhaps best franchise is Halo and of course there is the Splinter Cell series as well, there are other games as well but those ones I can think of that I know are exclusive. If you're into those games, then the 360 is for you. With the PS3, it has seemed that some of the games that were on its predecessor are also involved with the other systems, the Wii and 360. However, there are exclusives like Final Fantasy 13, Metal Gear Solid, and Tekken as well. If you are into those types of games, then perhaps the PS3 is for you.It should make sense onto which system should be bought based upon those key items. Whether or not it works out for the best on that is another story. There are many other games as well like some of the Sonic games, which are not exclusive to anyone at this very moment. So, look at the items as far as what to buy and decide for yourself on what system is going to be worth your money. If you choose the wrong system, then you got no one to blame but yourself.

  • Each console in the 7th Generation has something that makes them stand out.
  • Picking a system based upon the video game library.
  • Price does come into play when choosing a system along with other factors.
Right now, the X-Box 360 is in 1st place in sales with the Wii in 2nd place while the PS3 falls dead last.

I have a Wii, that's good for when you're young, but I've gotten older and have adapted to my Xbox 360. PS3 has games for kids and adults, Xbox 360 is mainly adults, and Wii is for children. IMO, Xbox 360 is the winner.

I Had Say Wii is More Fun Than
X-Box 360 . Not All Wii Games Are For
Young Children . Wii Has A Good Range
of Games For Everyone . The Bad Part Is That It Does Not Have a Hard Drive In It .Even Without A Hard Drive There Are
Ways To Store Data In Wii.For Example We Could Use SD Card Of Course now lets
See At The Good Part There Are Many Points
We Can Buy A Home Brew Channel From The Net With Which We Have A Possibility Of Gettig Free games
And We Will Be Able To Play SegaSaturn And Other Gaming Consoles Games

Its Cheap Of Cost Just $99

It Has A Motion Sensor Which Makes The Game More Fun

It Has A Wireless Network Sensor Through Which We Can Acces The Net With
    No Extra Cost

And The Last Point Is That There Is A Online Service Called Wii Shop Through Which We Can Get Virtual Console Games

PS3 has a few games (MGS4 and Valkyria Chronicles), but other than that in the gaming sector it is a disappointment. Xbox 360 ftw!

ok the person below this needs to do some research, the ps3 and xbox sales are extremely close the xbox overall is higher because it came out a year earlier and Wii games are horrible and the 360 only has like 5 good exclusive games

PS3 sucks. The Wii and xbox have the better games, better controllers and right now are very cheap. Whereas the ps3 is really struggling to sell.

I'd say the ps3 is the best. I'm also 14 but the graphics on the ps3 and the blu-ray support are pretty neat. The x-box is great and the wii has a variety of features but the ps3 to me is the best. Also games like Metal Gear Solid 4 have really made the ps3 a competitor.

I got a wii and I'd like to tell you it's totally awesome but don't be fooled by low price if you include the price of wiimotes & nunchuks it's a heck of a lot of money

I'm stuck in a rather similar fix. It's awfully hard to decide.

I had to pick Wii, just because PS3 and Xbox has yet to show off anything. I mean seriously, not all nintndo games are for just kids. Most anticipated games are Metroid 3 and SMash Bros. Brawl. Twilight princess is worth getting also. FF games are the only reasons i'd get PS3.
