Picky Eater Tips: Some Clues for Parents

The likes and dislikes of foods that your child will or won't eat can be a battle. If you begin to introduce your child to sugary cereal, chances are they will not want oatmeal, grits or fresh fruits for breakfast. The great news about this is if they are eating breakfast, this is still good. Remember that some food is better than no food at all. We all know that breakfast boosts energy and healthy foods are better, but if your child want eat healthy foods continue to introduce them in time your child will eat better.

Continue to introduce fruits and veggies with no unhealthy foods on your child's plate. If you do this continuously for days then you will notice your child sampling some of the healthier foods that you are bringing to the table. Keep in mind to never give up on fruits and veggies when your child first taste them they may not like them, but keep introducing. Chances are that your child want like them or it can appear that they didn't like it try again remember this is new to them and it should take a little time for them to get use to the taste.

Studies have shown that it is easy for mothers that breastfeed to introduce new food and their child actually might like it when the mothers eats healthy foods herself. Try to serve everybody at the table the same foods. If your child is having veggies and fruits then so should the adults during this will set a great example to your child. Leading by example is very important in a child's life even with the food that you eat. Note that your child do more of what they see you do then what you tell them to do.

If your child love to eat cereal for breakfast like most kids do then buy cereal that is high in fiber and less sugary. Note that when buying if cereal is to colorful chances are it isn't all that healthy. Depending upon how old your child is try face making. Face making is nothing more then the weird but yummy expressions you make when you are eating your food. Make your food appear as if it's tasty and your little will want to try it as well.

Choosing a book to read to your child that talks about eating fruits and veggies is also a great idea. Be sure that the book that you choose have lots of colorful pictures in them. Not only will reading be a great idea, but watching kiddie television shows that talk highly about eating your fruits and vegetables. Making better choices in your home about the foods that you purchase can make a big difference like instead of ice cream serve your child yogurt, instead of cereal try hot cereal. Snacks like chips and cookies can be avoided if you introduce crackers, fruits, or a sandwich. Lastly if you start introducing healthy foods while your kids are young then you want have a major picky eater as they grow older.
