In other cancer news, tumors spotted between mammograms often are more aggressive according to a study as reported in an article in Health Day. ( http://www.cancercompass.com/cancer-news/article/36691.htm?c=NL20110504 ).
"In this study an interval cancer was one that was diagnosed within two years after the last negative mammogram," the story states. "The authors identified 'Ëœtrue' interval cancers and 'Ëœmissed' interval cancers in a group of almost 431,500 Ontario women aged 50 or older who were screened from 1994 through 2002."
They then compared those tumors with a control group of mammography-detected cancers, research shows.
"Both the true and missed interval cancers were more aggressive than the cancers picked up by screening in that they were a higher stage and grade," the article said. "True interval cancers were also more likely to belong to the minority of breast cancers that do not originate in the milk ducts."
