Picture and Sound Show: Create and Distribute Your Own Screensavers

Dee Jones
Most computers already come with several screensavers installed. You can also download free screensavers online.

But there is something more fun about using customized, personalized screensavers, something you've created yourself that contains images special to you.

Picture and Sound Show is a freeware program that helps you create professional looking screensavers in minutes. Not only can you create screensavers to use on your own computer, you can distribute your screensavers so they can be used by other people.

Images in Picture and Sound Show

The screensavers created by Picture and Sound Show are based on collections, or groupings of images. You can create several collections in Picture and Sound Show, based on a theme, subject, or anything else you can think of. Those collections are always there, ready to be used as your screensaver.

You can use images in most of the popular formats, including JPEG, GIF, bitmap, and PNG. But you'll probably want to use GIF or JPEG images, which usually have smaller file sized than PNG or bitmap images. This will keep the size of your finished screensaver relatively small.

Adding Music to Picture and Sound Show

Adding to your Picture and Sound Show screensaver is pretty simple. However, while you can add music in most of the popular formats (including MP3, WAV, and MIDI) you should probably stick with using songs in MP3 format. For one, MP3 files are usually smaller, which will help control the size of your finished screensaver.

Also, using music in another format could be problematic because some computers might not be able to play those formats. But pretty much all computers can play MP3 files. So, if you intend to distribute your screensaver, play it safe and use MP3.

You can control the way music plays in your screensaver. For example, you can set a song to play only once, or set it to keep playing as for long as the screensaver is running.

Transition Effects

Picture and Sound Show comes with dozens of transition effects that you can use to create smooth transitions between one image and the next. You can use one effect for all of the transitions in your screensaver, or you can use all of the transition effects, either in sequential order, or randomly.

Distributing Your Screensavers

Once you're finished with the simple process of creating a new screensaver, choosing music, pictures and setting, you can start using it immediately without doing anything else.

However, if you like, you can create a screensaver file that you can share with your friends and family members for use on their computers.

But there is a restriction. You can't sell your screensavers. However, you are free to give your screensavers away to whoever you want.

Picture and Sound Show is a great way to create personalized screensavers for your computer. And, best of all, you can easily share the fruits of your creativity with others.
