Piece of Mind

Zenovia B.
I did not know what I was going to do.
I slipped on my jeans and into my shoes.

I watched him as he laid there so innocent and quietly.
If he knew what I was doing, he would become violently.

My heart was beating so hard and fast, I could hardly breathe.
I whispered in my little girl's ear, "Come on baby we are going to leave."

"Where do you think you are going?" I heard a voice from behind.
"We have got to get out of here," my voice began to whine.

He took our little girl from me and knocked me to the floor.
He said, "Now I would like to see you try and walk out of the door."

I picked myself up off the floor, I cannot believe what occurred next,
All the feelings started stirring up in me, especially distress.

I do not know what happened next, Tina Turner jumped inside of me,
I started to hit him with my fist, first once, and then twice, next three.

Very surprised he looked at me; He did not know what to say,
I was scared shaking inside, so I began to pray.

I picked up my daughter and looked at him, "No more" I started to yell.
"I am not going to allow you to push me to a point, that I'll be staring at my daughter through a jail cell."

I walked out of the door into the darkness, us both wrapped in my sweater.
I ran to the nearest women's shelter, but my piece of mind felt better.
