Piers Morgan Tonight CNN's Brash New Interview Show

Sherry Tomfeld
When viewers tune in to Larry King Live in January they will be in for a surprise and a change. Piers Morgan Tonight will be filling King's time slot. Americans are familiar with Piers Morgan as a judge of America's got Talent and the winner of The Apprentice. The style and personalities will be stunningly different, will Americans catch the Piers Morgan fever or will he leave them cold?

Morgan is no stranger to controversy. Tuning into America's Got Talent will give you a clue as to the frank (sometimes brutal) honesty he uses. He is very direct and very, well "British". Some British fans love the interviews he conducts. In one such interview, Morgan got Gordon Brown to talk about his 10 year old daughter's death.

Newly married to Celia Walden, a Daily Telegraph columnist, Piers Morgan has his plate full fulfilling all his obligations. Besides America's Got Talent, he also judges Britain's Got Talent. Piers Morgan has a journalistic background. But will American's go for a British talk show host over an American one? CNN hopes they can gain traction in Larry King's time slot against FOX News.

The unknown factor to Piers Morgan's success in his new show is the American publics reaction to him. Morgan says he doesn't want to be seen as a political animal. He wants to do in depth interviews with people like Nelson Mandela and President Obama. Americans may tune in to see what Piers Morgan is all about. But if he doesn't snag them then, Piers may have a short-lived career in that time slot.

The Huffington Post ran an article about Piers Morgan Tonight and the comments were less than desirable. To read them go here. The general attitude is that we don't need another British show host. I believe that most people will not judge Piers on where he comes from but rather how well he interviews guests. Americans can be quirky and so can Piers Morgan. Maybe this will truly be a marriage of both worlds. Time will tell as January gets closer.

Other accomplishments of Morgan include editor of News of the World, editor of Daily Mirror, TV show "You can't fire me I'm famous!", reporter for Surrey and South London Newspaper Group, and show business editor of the Sun. Winning the celebrity "The Apprentice".

Why did we have to go outsource an english man to take Larry's job. Piers appears to be a stiff, self loving, arrogant pompous _ss. Just saying!!!

I don't think I'll watch him. He gets on my nerves.

He comes a cross very stiff. I never watched the other and have no plans on watching him either

I would rather have seen the show go to an American...but oh well. Just back from my holiday break...sorry I won't be able to catch up on all your articles.

I did not like watching Larry himself -- I never could see that he cared about anyone. So to me, PIers would be an improvement. Not that I'll watch!

Good synopsis. I don't know much about the guy.

I don't thin I will like him in Larry's spot.
