Pig Flu, Swine Flu, What Do We Do?

Everywhere, every TV channel, radio station, news program, web pages. It seems that people are very frightened of this swine flu or pig flu. Where has it come from? Mexico. A two year old child has died in Texas of this swine flu after leaving Mexico to visit Texas. People are walking down the street with masks on their face. I must say I Was relieved to hear there were no reported cases of pig flu in VA. Are people panicking and worrying too much about this or is it as serious as people think? I've just heard a child in Chicago may be infected. This thing is now airborne? It's killed a baby! That is terrifying when so many children get together at schools and daycares. Doctors are offering Tami flu which is controversial, said to have bad side effects such as hallucinations and changes in mental capabilities and behavior. Tami flu has often been prescribed to children and adults alike.

The pig flu is apparently a deadly epidemic in Mexico. Pig viruses don't usually infect people but in rare cases have affected people in close contact with pigs, such as on farms. Now people who have had no contact with pigs are contracting this virus. It's a new strain that is passing person to person through the air! Scary stuff. Obviously the swine flu will prove deadly to those with low immunity, the elderly, and very young. Symptoms can start spreading a full day before the infected person has even had symptoms so it would be hard or impossible to predict or avoid. There is no vaccine against this swine flu yet but it is in the works. Of course that means months and months in the future as these things take time.

Avoiding the illness is done in the same way as avoiding any flu, Washing hands, avoiding very public places, staying home from work or keeping the kids home from school if you or they have any flu symptoms. The swine flu symptoms are the same as with regular flus. Beware of sick people and keep your distance as much as possible if at all possible. How widespread will this pig flu become and if it has been a problem in Mexico for awhile now so why haven't they come up with a vaccine yet? Maybe it is no worse than regular flu except that it is lesser known to humans and there is vaccine for it.
