Having lived in Georgia for five years, my husband had nearly given up on finding any 'really good ribs' around here. By that he means, tender smoky, meaty barbecue ribs smothered in a tangy sweet sauce. Last week his prayers were answered when we followed my daughter's excited recommendation to go check out the ribs at Pig In A Pit. She visited their new location in Macon, Georgia but called to tell us the 'original' restaurant is right here in our neighborhood.

Having spotted the sign at a tiny shopping center squeezed into a corner location next to a video store, we were a bit doubtful about what we were about to try.
The delicious odor of sweet, smoky barbecue had our stomaches grumbling before we ever opened the door and walked up to the counter to place our order.
That wonderful greeting coupled with knowing that my daughter is as crazy about GOOD barbecue ribs as he is, we began to think maybe we were onto something after all.

Deciding to go 'whole hog' as it were, we ordered a full slab barbecue rib dinner for him and a smaller barbecue rib basket for myself.

The full slab dinner comes with your choice of two sides and bread and the basket came with 4 ribs, french fries and bread.
They offer 3 sauces, a mild BBQ, a mustard based sauce , and a delicious vinegar sauce which you can add to your ribs at the table.
Plenty of hand wipes were at the ready in the form of a roll of paper towels on the table as well.

Finding a seat in one of the booths we placed our little number card on the table in front of us and didn't have long to wait before our order came out.

With the first bite, we knew we had found one of the best kept secrets in Milledgeville, possible in the entire state of Georgia!
Those thick meaty ribs were so well seasoned, I almost forgot about the three sauces there to try! The moist tender rib meat slipped effortlessly into our mouth and had our taste buds singing from the first morsel! The smoky-sweet sauce was just the right blend of flavors to settle it once and for all that we have found THE ONLY PLACE we will go for barbecue from now on!

Not only did we fully enjoy our first visit there , but we had the opportunity to meet the owner, and share our delight with the meal.
My husband Fred told him," I've been in Georgia five years and thought no one knew how to make really good barbecue ribs around here, but, I just got proved wrong! These are GREAT, I mean, really GREAT! I will be back here, you can count on it!".

For THE BEST Slow Smoked Barbecue anywhere, PIG IN A PIT gets our vote!!!

I just want to know why BBQ places always advertise with cute, lovable pig pics- don't they realize they are encouraging a bunch of carnivores to eat those little piggies?
