The Elkhorn City Senior Citizens Center hosted a cake walk recently to benefit Smith and it was a huge success.
The kind souls at the Pikeville Medical Center are also stepping up. Walter May of the hospital had a special training session with some of the nurses there recently to teach them how to properly administer the swab test used to determine bone marrow matches. Using these newly qualified nurses, May intends to test every employee of the hospital. Considering that 2,000 workers are on hand at any given time, the total number of tests resulting from his efforts could be astronomical. The family is overwhelmed by May's proposal and has expressed a willingness to help him in any way that he may require.
It also seems as if more drives and benefit sales may be scheduled fin the future. Check back here for details as as the efforts to save Kyle Smith's life continue.
