Pilgrims in Blue and Green

J.S. Anand
Is this where we go
Now?
Vanished is the desert,
And no longer is the count
40 days
And 40 nights.
40 days and 40 nights
To speak with God
Atop burning mountains.
Is there no God
Left
Who speaks through burning bushes?
Where are the waters
Upon which His spirit moves?
What of the Red Sea,
Which for the faithful parts,
Providing sanctuary,
Then closes to shatter
The mighty enemy?

We spend our time
These days
In hospitals:
We wear gowns of blue or green,
Meeting or not meeting
Discharge criteria:
Overcome or not,
Gracefully or not,
dys-function
dys-order
dys-themia
dys-harmony
dis-ease
But even in Dys-topia
Can the spirit not be silenced
(Somewhere in a concentric
Inferno
Stand the brazen walls
Of Dis,
And whether Beatrice awaits,
Or Virgil,
Or just another
Pilgrim in blue or green
Is up to you).
