Growing up with a mother that cooked biscuits 3 times daily and made it look easy, as a young wife I believed the ability to make good biscuits was a sign of a good cook. I never accomplished that feat. I could bake excellent pies, cakes and even loaf bread occasionally, but my biscuits always came out like "hockey pucks", dry and very hard. They were lazy biscuits that got cooked in the "squat" because they would not jump up in time! For a number of years I tried to make decent biscuits. I tried different recipes, different ovens, made sure my ingredients were fresh and nothing worked. It was just not meant to be!
I resorted to using "whop" biscuits. "Whop" biscuits are the canned biscuits you remove from the refrigerator, whop on the edge of the counter to open, and cook. These were satisfactory, but not nearly as good as home made biscuits.
One weekend while visiting relatives, I was served some of the most wonderful biscuits I had eaten since my mother's biscuits. They were Pillsbury Grands Biscuits - Southern Style. I have tried 2 of the different flavors, but my preference is the Southern Style biscuits.

Ingredients:
Enriched flour, water, partially hydrogenated soybean and/or cottonseed oil, skim milk, baking powder, buttermilk, sugar, contains less than 1.5% of salt, rice flour, sodium caseinate, datem, whey protein concentrate, whey, wheat protein isolate, natural flavor. Also contains wheat and milk ingredients.
Bake time is 16 to 22 minutes (depending on quantity) at 375 degrees F. The freezer bag comes with a closing strip for re-sealing. I find a wooden clothes pin is more secure. One thing especially good about the package is the expiration date is very plain and visible.
If you have never tried Pillsbury Grands Biscuits I highly recommend them to you. They really should change the name to Pillsbury Grandma's Biscuits - because they are just that good!

Post a CommentPlease let me know if you have stoped making the microwave biscuits. They are the most perfect biscuite to have, when it is just one person. You do not have to heat the oven for one biscuite and the biscuite is ready in a flash
Same as below
I am a widow in my late years. I have tried both frozen Biscuts and the micro ones. I relish the microwave ones. Take one out and microwave. I have checked all grocery stors in North Myrtle Beach for several month. No luck. Why?
Watch out for the trans fat in these! The fat that will kill you!
I'll be on the lookout for these from now on! Thanks, great article.:)
I recently tried these and have to agree with your review - they are much better than the canned biscuits!
We love the whole wheat Grands.............have only found them at Warehouse Market.....................yum!
My husband and I started buying these frozen biscuits because the tubes required making too many biscuits for just two people. He loves them! He thinks they are much better than the ones from the cardboard tubes. Good review.
I need to add these to my list of foods to have on hand, sound very tempting!
