Pin the Red Nose on the Reindeer - Create Your Own Holiday Game Craft

A Child Friendly Craft for Creating Your Reindeer Game

Ashley Mott
Reindeer's are one of the most endearing symbols of Christmas, so there are few more appropriate Christmas crafts than a reindeer. Maybe your children even knows the most famous reindeer of all, Rudolph! Rudolph makes an excellent craft project, especially when coupled with a fun game. After all, the other reindeer wouldn't let him play with them! Our craft project is a pin the red nose on Rudolph do-it-yourself game.

Materials needed:

Two sheets of art paper capable of holding acrylic paint or posterboard
Red acrylic paint (I use Apple Barrel 90784 Red Apple)
Tan acrylic paint (I use Apple Barrel 20524 Golden Brown)
Brown acrylic paint (I use Apple Barrel 20511 Brown Oxide)
Scissors
Tape

Steps:

Draw the basic outline of a Rudolph reindeer. Focus on the round nose. If you are using an 8.5 by 11-inch sheet of paper, two sheets of paper can be used with a profile on either side of the paper. To easily transfer the design symmetrically from one sheet to another, use a copy machine to make a stencil or copy it to the back and then to front with a pencil.

Paint the red nose and Rudolph's mouth first as well as an additional, larger red nose for the game piece.

Paint Rudolph's face with the tan acrylic paint. Focus only on adding the initial color on that this point.

Paint Rudolph's antlers with the darker brown acrylic paint. Also use this paint for filling in Rudolph's eyes.

Allow Rudolph to dry fully.

If you want to, add an extra coat of brown paint to Rudolph's face and add contrasting accents to maximize his color potential

Clip out Rudolph when he is dry and either attach him to the wall or an additional piece of large white posterboard to use as the game board.

Cut out Rudolph's red nose game piece. Use a gummy adhesive on the back of the nose for child's game play to prevent injury from a pin.

Alternatives to this design include making a weighty red nose and laying Rudolph out flat on the ground and then having a type of bean toss to aim for his nose.

Rudolph Is definitely Santa's most special reindeer and your little Santa's helpers can create this easy craft in a matter of active minutes. The main portion of time is spent letting the acrylic paint dry. After that there is lots of fun to be had with Rudolph!
