Chris Carola posted an article on the Associated Press about the kidnapping in question.
First, 42-year-old Christopher Craft Sr. has two sons that had attended the school district but were not currently enrolled. He took a disassembled shotgun into a middle school right before classes started. After putting the gun together in the bathroom Craft took the principal hostage and held him in that state for two hours.
Craft was also wearing a black T-shirt with the image of a pirate ship on the back as well as black jeans and tennis shoes.
A student witness hiding in the next room heard threatening and arguing but heard no specifics.
Of interest is that Craft did not threaten anyone and no one was injured.
Craft was arrested and was arraigned by Pine Plains Town Justice Louis who sent him to jail without bail. Cooperative until this point Craft became upset and said that he didn't belong in a jail being quoted in article as saying "Jail is not the place I need to be." Rather Craft said because he was so depressed he should be in a facility getting treatment.
As the SWAT Team was working on the outside of the building students were texting on their cell phones. Any parent who has teenagers knows that they can "text" faster than they can talk.
I have thought for you. It turns out that the principal, Bob Hess, used to be the school psychologist. Therefore he was able to control Craft. Also, one must wonder if since Craft claimed to be depressed that he did not want to see Hess on that basis.
Perhaps there is time for Christopher Craft Sr.
Six years ago 48-year-old John Allen Muhammad masterminded a shooting spree killing ten people and all things being equal will die tonight by lethal injection.
For some reason the variance in these two cases with Veterans' Day as a backdrop is disturbing.
