Pineapple Express Halloween Costume Ideas

Pineapple Express was a highly anticipated blockbuster comedy that left thousands of viewers laughing straight through the film. This Halloween, the comedy is sure to inspire a few costume choices. Here's a quick guide to creating your own costume with some very simple accessories you may already have in your closet.

Dale Denton (Seth Rogen)

In Pineapple Express, Dale Denton is a young process server who spends his days alternatively serving subpoenas and smoking weed. In early scenes of the film, we see Seth Rogen's Denton serving subpoenas dressed as a delivery man and doctor, among other things. That's all you need to know to get a very basic Dale Denton costume going. Find yourself a tan dress suit; either borrow one from someone, if you don't have one of your own, or try to find one at a local thrift store. That's basically all Denton wears throughout the movie! Jazz it up and remind other fans of his hilarious process server antics by throwing on a pair of doctors scrubs instead of the suit pants, and tote a few fake wigs, sunglasses, ID badges, etc.

Saul Silver (James Franco)

In the film, James Franco portrays Saul Silver, an odd-ball drug dealer who sells Dale Denton the rare "Pineapple Express" weed that gets all the trouble in the film started. Franco's character is a long-haired, disheveled young man with an odd sense of humor and an odder sense of the world. Saul spends the entire movie-and I mean the entire movie-in pretty much the same outfit, making this costume, again, extremely simple and easy to put together. His costume consists of a grey t-shirt over a long-sleeved white t-shirt and red striped pajama pants. The grey t-shirt has a shark on it, which is a detail you may or may not want to go for. But Saul is not the most hygiene-savvy character, meaning whatever you wear, you'll want to wear it dirty! Use your costume as your pajamas for a few days before your party, or simply rub some dirt on them to get Saul's dirty look. Saul also sometimes wears a grey headband (also dirty). He also has long hair, which means if your hair isn't already long you'll want to find yourself a long-haired wig. Remember, even Saul's hair is gritty, so try rubbing some dirt and oil in your hair or wig to achieve the look.

In the course of Pineapple Express, both Dale and Saul get pretty badly beaten up. That means face make-up (unless you're so serious about this costume that you're willing to let a friend slap you around a little . . . which I doubt). Use a make-up or face paint shade that's close to your skin shade to make your skin a little pale in some spots; create rings around your eyes with a shade darker than your skin tone. Use a make-up pen, mascara, or a marker to create cut lines around your mouth, nose, and forehead. Apply a band-aid or two to finish your look! And an added note: it's probably not a good idea to carry around a fake (or real) joint as part of your costume . . . for what we'll call all the obvious reasons!
