Pink or Blue

Elizabeth McGill
Pink Or Blue

Pink or blue, who are you,

soon my baby to be?

Girl or boy, you'll bring such joy,

it doesn't really matter to me!

Pink bow in hair, just barely there,

eyes so clear, so blue.

Safe and warm, in my arms,

I'm finally holding you!

Bottles and wipers, milk and diapers,

jars of food all strained.

Never again will, our grocery bill,

ever be the same!

You smile at last, it's not just gas,

as you're learning to move and crawl.

Making your rounds, while making sounds,

in wonderment of it all!

123's, ABC's, you're learning to read and write.

No longer you'll be my little baby,

I rocked in my arms at night.

Trading Barbies for boys,

now it's trucks, not toys,

as you shed lace for denim blue jeans.

You're jumping for joy,

as you thank the Lord,

you finally turned sixteen!

High school, then college,

You're just bursting with knowledge.

And I pray that one day soon,

I see the results, of us acting like adults,

when we are sitting in the same room!

Old and new,

borrowed and blue,

a veil upon your face.

I wipe tears from my eyes,

and try hard to not cry,

as you cut your wedding cake.

Pink or blue,

who are you,

soon my grand baby to be?

Girl or boy,

you'll bring such joy,

it doesn't really matter to me!
