PINK Demolishes Australian Concert and Radio Play Records in 2009
PINK - Record 58 Funhouse Oz Concerts in 2009 and "most Played" Artist in Australia Three Years in a Row
There is absolutely no doubt that PINK is the darling of the Australian concert scene. During her Funhouse Tour in 2009, the amazing (non-lip-synching) rock chick performed an astounding 58 concerts in four months to a total audience of 660,000 fans. And this isn't the first time PINK has performed in Australia. Her previous Australian concerts in 2008 sold out at 300,000. The hugely popular star also performed her hit song So What at the 2008 Australian Recording Industry Association Awards (ARIAs). In 2007, the energetic performer brought her I'm Not Dead Yet tour to Australia and it sold out in five states. Pink's first tour of Australia was in 2004.
It is easy to see that Australian fans adore Pink and the fact that she has performed so many sold out shows during a five year time-span, is evidence that she is the most popular overseas act to tour Australia - ever! The statistics of Pink's success are also absolutely awesome. In the past two years, she has sold 4.8 million records and singles, smash hit So What has spent a year in the charts, all five Pink albums have been in the top 30 at the same time and the Funhouse record has never left the top 10 in 42 weeks, notching nine weeks at No.1, which is a record for any female artist on the Australian charts.
Her Australian promoter Michael Coppel paid tribute to her hard work and professionalism, joking that Pink is so adored in Australia "we have booked all of 2012 for the next tour".
Australia is Pink's most successful and supportive fan-base in the world, having backed her more than a decade ago on her debut album Can't Take Me Home.
PINK tops list of the most played artists in Australia for the third year in a row
Figures released recently by The Phonographic Performance Company of Australia (PPCA) indicate that Pink was the most played artist in the country for the year ending June 2009. She entered the record books with her sell-out Funhouse tour, and her songs So What and Sober were among the 10 most played tracks, ranking at number seven and nine.
Kings Of Leon achieved second place, followed by Katy Perry and Lady Gaga, while UK band Coldplay rounded out the top five. Britney Spears' controversial Circus tour may have helped her to the number seven spot on the list of most played artists.
For the second year running The Veronicas were the top ranked Aussie act in ninth place, just beating Jessica Mauboy at 10. Aussie groups The Living End and The Presets made it into the top 20.
From July 2008 to June 2009 the radio airwaves were dominated by hit songs such as Jason Mraz's I'm Yours, Viva La Vida by Coldplay, Kid Rock's All Summer Long and Kings of Leon's Use Somebody. The Living End were the only Aussies with a song in the top 10 with their hit White Noise.
PPCA grants licenses for the public playing of songs and music videos, and the results were collected from hundreds of broadcast outlets across radio and television.
PINK works hard to give her fans a spectacular show every time
To have achieved such amazing success in Australia, it is obvious that Pink puts in a huge effort. She's even more credible because, unlike some major artists, she sings live in her concerts (even upside-down hanging off a rope).
During her Funhouse tour run, Pink and motocross bike riding husband Carey Hart managed to take a two week vacation to see some of the country that has taken Pink so warmly into their hearts.
