Pink Elephant: The Gay Republicans in the Room

After all the scandals in the news, a wiki search for "Gay Republicans" only brings up Log Cabin Republicans. In there effort to be uber neutral, wikipedia refuses to catalogue an American Political Scandal. Here's a brief synopsis of the culprits. The first four listed, are just sexual hypocrites. The last three, are possible indicators what more heinous crimes. Ranging from conspiracy to a threat to national security.

1. Larry Craig
The most recent scandal involves Idaho Sen. Larry Craig. He was arrested for allegedly soliciting sex in a Minneapolis airport bathroom. His previous claim to fame: he voted against adding the words "sexual orientation" to the federal hate crimes law.

2. Bob Allen
Since we're already on the topic of solicitation in a bathroom, let's discuss Republican Florida Representative Bob Allen. He's charged with offering an undercover cop $20 to allow Allen to blow him. After being arrested, Allen explained the situation as he was intimidated by "a pretty stocky black guy" and offered money and oral sex as a way to avoid an attack by the undercover officer and the other "black guys" in the park. Adding racism to an allegation of lewd behavior.

3. Ted Haggard
American Evangelical Christian Preacher Ted Haggard resigned due to a scandal of The Scarlet Letter plotting. He suffered from allegations that he engaged in homosexual relations and used crystal meth with a male prostitute. He denied both allegations initially, but later conceded that they were both true.

4. Glenn Murphy Jr.
American Republican political activist Glenn Murphy is the first repeat offender on the list. He was the recent Chairman of the Young Republicans when Murphy, 33, was too intoxicated to drive home, and an Indiana Woman urged her brother and Murphy to stay over. The 22 year old man woke up the next morning to the surprise of Murphy masturbating while performing oral sex on the younger man. It's alleged that the brother and sister later met with Murphy, admitted the sex crime, but the conversation was taped without Murphy's consent or knowledge.

Earlier, in 1998, a 21 year old filed a police report alleging the same account. He too awoke to find Murphy performing oral sex on him. Without evidence, no charges were filed.

5. Mark Foley
Then there is Mark Foley. A member of the U.S. House of Representatives, he was sending sexually suggestive emails and instant messages to his under aged Congressional Pages. He carried on this way for more than 10 years. Which begs the question, how could this go unnoticed for that long? If there were complaints made about his criminal actions, did the complaints fall on deaf ears? I'd expect many people to be prosecuted over their silence, which was enabling a pedophile. Ironically Foley was Chairman of the House Caucus on Missing and Exploited Children.

6. Ed Schrock
Former member of the Unites States House of Representatives was revealed as a hypocrite by Michael Rogers of blogActive.com. In the face of his ardent opposition to gay rights, blogActive posted links audio recording of Schrock allegedly soliciting sex on a gay phone-sex chat line. Later, Schrock declined to run for a third term in Congress.
And it should be noted that blocActive has rumored to unearth more gay republicans.

7. Jeff Gannon
Gannon was a representative of Talon News, which was owned by conservative activist group GOPUSA. Although, he did not have the qualifications for a Congressional Press Pass, Gannon was given daily passes to the White House as a reporter. During presidential press conferences, it's stated that Gannon only asked the president softball questions. His lack of credentials only came into question once it was revealed that Gannon was a former homosexual escort working under the name Bulldog.

The real question, how was it ever possible for him to gain such easy access to the White House, and even be considered a member of the press core? If they checked the logs of every time he went into the White House, would there be something fishy revealed?

That's an extensive list of high profile media hypocrites. One wonders why? Why the gay republican? Why the self loathing? Why the juxtaposition of being in the closet and making strident gains against their very own alternative lifestyle? Well, your guess is as good as mine.
