Pinks for Any Room

Pam Gaulin
You don't have to be Elle Woods to embrace pink. Light pinks, pretty pinks, and soft pinks heat up in 2011. From Pantone's color of the year to softer pinks you can live with, pink, when combined with right decor and complementary colors can be charming in any home. Pink is flattering and energizing. Do you know the soft effect that you get when you use pink tilted bulbs in a room? Pink walls do the same thing.

Pinks You Can Live With

The bold and happy Honeysuckle is Pantone's color of the year 2011. Pinks are not just for a little girl's bedroom anymore. Use them in the den paired with a a subtle silver gray and some black accents. Create a sophisticated bathroom color with modern pink and green.

Behr Paints

There are pinks cropping up in the Behr Paint 2011 color trend palettes, including the Kawaii T11-14.

For a bolder hue, use Pinkelicious T11-15. These two pinks can also be used together, along with a crisp white.

Benjamin Moore

Two light pinks you could use in an elegant setting or a cottage style room are Touch of Pink or Passion Pink. Touch of Pink looks stunning with shades of white and light green. For a more upscale look using purple and wrought iron or gold home decor, use Passion Pink.

Sherwin-Williams

Liven up the bedroom or a small bathroom with Exuberant Pink SW6840. Pair it with a subtle Monorail Silver SW7663.

Glidden

One of the most versatile pinks is Fresh Pink Lemonade from Gildden. Take a room back in time with a Retro combination of light blue and white, with stainless steel fixtures or appliances. Or use the light pink in a study or den. Incorporate lots of white, from furniture to white and pink patterns throughout the room. Add one bold and deep hue, from a green to a charcoal gray for some real visual pop.

Pittsburgh Paints

The Rose Mauve 238-5 is similar to the Pantone Honeysuckle, but it's not as bright. The saturation is there but the overall effect is more subdued. Combine this bold hue with Pineapple Sage. They also have a palette collection they call Poppy Love. It includes an array of pinks, which look great together. It includes Bleeding Heart 134-5, Precious Pink 134-3 and a stem green called Tabu 412-3. There is also a barely there pink tint called Plaster Pink 132-1 and Atrium White 523-1.

Great article. I have to think twice about pink. Love the "Elle Woods" reference.

I like pink although I'd only use it in a little girl's room.
