Pin-up Girl Bettie Page Dead at 85

Cultural Icon Taken by Pneumonia

The Notorious Bettie Page is dead at Age 85 from Pneumonia. One of the most famous former Playmates, Page was a common sight in 'cheesecake' pin-up calendars across the United States. Bettie Page photos also appear on posters, coffee mugs, and even Betty Page shirts. Her career was short lived and she gave up modeling in 1957, and gained notoriety in the 1980's when a new generation discovered and idolized her.

Ms. Page, a former schoolteacher, inspired a fashion movement with her dark straight bangs and full figure. It was as if Veronica from Archie Comics had stepped off the page.

After a sudden heart attack earlier this month, Ms. Page was admitted to a Los Angeles hospital and never regained consciousness. The real Bettie Page will be missed by her fans.
