"Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End" Gets 2 Cups of Coffee

Entertaining and Worth the Rental Cost

I have read several scathing reviews of this latest "Pirates" movie. I found it delightful, but perhaps it was because I watched "Eastern Promises" and couldn't stay awake. Since I tend toward insomnia this was a wonderful, yet not intended, result. I realize that if you have the entertainment level of a child, you will find that many of the movies that I recommend will be your cup of tea.

Those that have seen the previous two "Pirates" movies will get the full impact immediately. Johnny Depp is lovable as usual and quite charming. I always seem to see a little bit of "sissy" in his character, Captain Jack Sparrow. Some of his "light in the loafers" antics make him quite complex, but lovable. Depp always has deliciously bizarre characters and wears the looks with ease. Since 1990, with the release of "Edward Scissorhands", I have watched Depp portray unconventional characters. Jack Sparrow is just one of many, but perhaps the most lovable of them all.

Orland Bloom delivers his character, Will Turner, with ease and grace. He portrays a man in love and on a mission. This film does not showcase Bloom as much as others but gives his character a little more depth than the first two. His love for his father and girlfriend Elizabeth Swan, played by Keira Knightly, shows through his actions quite readily.

I loved the feisty side of Elizabeth that was portrayed in this episode of "Pirates". Her take-charge attitude in the film is definitely a role model for young girls. It is hard to find elegant ladies that have become pirate kings in any contemporary films. This addition to the series was a delight to me and helped to create a slightly higher rating.

The entire cast of pirates were odd lots but the writing brought them to life. I particularly loved the voting segment for the Pirate King. This presented the true personalities of the pirates in a humorous and vivid way.

The search for the heart of Davy Jones and preservation of the pirate way of life leads the entourage of pirates to a great adventure. The final battle is both exciting and suspenseful with special effects that rival all others.

The movie starts a little slow but the final sequence is worth the entire watch. Due to a slight nod off in the beginning I cannot rate this higher than 2 cups of coffee, but it still is great entertainment for the entire family in the true Disney style.

Rating system:

Two Snoozer- demand your money back

A Snooze and A Doze - rent it cheap, if at all

A Snooze - Slightly below average, only for a really boring weekend.

A light Doze -Average

A Cup of Coffee - Slightly above average.

Two Coffees -Entertaining

Two Coffees and A Red Bull- Worth seeing

Two Coffees and Two Red Bulls - The hall of fame. Pay to see it at a theater.

Watched it last night- Depp and the final battle were the only things that saved it from 2 hours of countless double dealings beforehand.

I liked it but I do think the first two were better. Thanks for the article. :)

Depp is great in just about every movie he's in, however, some things are best left alone.. Hollywood has a nasty habit of taking a great idea and beating it to death.
