The International Drive location has been voted the best course in Florida and with good reason. The challenge it offers and the theme work that has gone into its design are both excellent. Yes, there are times when they don't take as good of care of the pond as they should but the rest of the course is very well maintained.
As an interesting aside, the course has snippets of the famed pirate Blackbeard at every hole, or nearly every hole. While most of the golfers tend to ignore these, they do provide some very interesting trivia on one of the most infamous pirates of all time.
The course is 36 holes, though customers are given the option of playing one or both of them. Those who make a hole in one on the final hole are given an additional treat - a free game that can be used again any time. Don't be shy to tell them at the desk when you turn in your clubs. It's on the honor system and most people tell the truth. And to think, you don't even have to buy a round of beers in the clubhouse afterward!
One course is supposed to be slightly more challenging than the other. The Captain's Course is the one recommended for beginners. Blackbeard's Challenge is designed for the more experienced player. Though in truth, if you are careful, even a novice will have no trouble getting through both of them safely. But be warned, there are several places where your ball could get wet, and a few where it would be difficult, if not impossible to get it back. So unless you want a long trip back to the front desk for an additional ball, watch where you are hitting!
Pirates Cove is open from 9 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. every day. In Orlando, it is recommended to go either early in the morning or after the sun goes down. There is some shade on the course, but not a lot. I would recommend going at night, as the atmosphere just seems to be a little more fun.
Cost is $9.95 for adults and $8.95 for children for 18 holes. For 36 holes, the cost is $13.95 for adults, $12.50 for children. Local sales tax must be added.
The two Pirates Cove Adventure Golf locations in Orlando are located at 8501 International Drive in Orlando, and 12545 SR535 in Lake Buena Vista (in the Crossroads shopping plaza).
