Pistol Packing First Grader Drops His Gun in School

Maryland 7-Year Old Comes to School with Loaded Guns

Reported on CNN this morning, yesterday a 7 year old first grade student at Randallstown Elementary School, near Baltimore Maryland, had a loaded pistol drop from his pocket while in his classroom. The teacher confiscated the firearm and took the young man to the Principals office where the Police were immediately summoned.

When the Police arrived, a search of the student's locker came up with another loaded pistol in the youngsters book bag. It's the belief of the Police that the boy thought the guns were toys, and had no idea of the danger involved.

The lad found the weapons while spending the weekend at an Uncles home. When he went on to school he was not aware he still had the guns in his possession. With no intent of doing harm, he simply forgot they were in his book bag.

Boarding the school bus, once he arrived at school, he discovered he still had the guns, along with his school work, in the book bag. The Police are not releasing the specifics about the guns as to what kind or caliber they were.

Apparently no charges will be filed against the 7 year old student, though his status in class hasn't as yet been determined. Baltimore Public School Policy indicates mandatory expulsion for bringing a weapon to school.

Charges may be filed against the Uncle for leaving guns within reach of a child, and child endangerment.

This is becoming an all to familiar situation, just over a year ago, May 25th, 2007 another 7 year old student arrived in class with a .38 revolver pistol. This happened in a Queen's Elementary School. The full story can be found at www.nydailynews.com/news/ny

Again fortunately no one was injured as this handgun was miraculously unloaded. In this instance the Mother and 14 year old Brother were taken into custody. It was unclear as to where the handgun had come from. The 14 year old apparently got it some where, and the Mother had told him to get rid of it. An apparent irresponsible parenting situation.
