Pit Bull: The Family Dog

For starters Pit Bull is a word used to described several breeds in the Molosser family. Some people see a Pit Bull and claims it is not full blooded because it doesn't look like the breed they are use to seeing. Some people doesn't realize that Pit Bull's look different because there is different breeds and backgrounds. For instance the American Pit Bull Terrier and Staffordshire Bull Terrier are both considered Pit Bulls. People even breed Pit Bulls with American Bulldogs and never know the difference because of the similar features. Often dog attacks are misclassified as a Pit Bull because of close features.

Pit Bull's is often rumored and portrayed as a killer. Some Pit Bull's can be mean but in most cases they was probably raised that way. Pit Bull's has a nature to attack if need be so some dog owners take advantage of this instinct and fight the dogs often for cash prizes. In this case the Pit Bull is abused and has no choice but to become vicious. This is the reason the Pit Bull takes on a bad name and perceived as a monster.

In all reality, the Pit Bull is the "clown" of dogs. With their clumsiness and funny character. A lot of people doesn't know how good of a pet a Pit Bull can really be. They are outgoing which makes them a perfect candidate for an owner who is active. There athletic ability can not be compared. All of that is bonus next to the smartness of these dogs. They are easily trained to do a number of commands from sit and stay to being potty trained.

One thing to always remember about the bad image that looms over the Pit Bull name is that with the proper training any dog can develop bad tendencies regardless of the breed. Pit Bull is just the main target for this type of training because their ability and strength. Pit Bulls can become very dangerous under these circumstances. Many Pit Bulls are killed or abandoned if they don't win a fight. This causes many stray Pit Bull's and over population in animal shelters.

With proper training just like any other dog, a Pit Bull can become the perfect family dog. They will give you a laugh here and there and always want to play with you. Being such a smart breed makes it easy training a Pit Bull . So if properly trained you can go jogging with a Pit Bull or play fetch. I've seen Pit Bulls go swimming with their owners, hiking with their owners, and running with their runners. It is really up to the owner to how the Pit Bull acts and behaves.So it really comes down to the type of environment you offer your Pit Bull and how you treat it to determine if you can have a great family pet.
