One million dollars is up for grabs for the first person to accomplish a rare feat in a video game. 2K Sports has made an unprecedented challenge for their newest game, MLB 2k10. They will award the first person who throws a perfect game in MLB 2k10 a cool $1,000,000. There has never been such a large prize for a video game contest before.

Throwing a perfect game is not an easy task. To throw a perfect game a pitcher (or a collection of the teams pitchers) must throw nine innings where no opposing players safely reach a base. This is such a rare feat that there have only been 18 times in the history of major league baseball where a perfect game has been thrown. A perfect game can be summarized in the saying "27 up and 27 down."

2k Sports states that they have revamped the games pitching mechanics and have made other critical changes in their game, the will make the challenge even more lifelike. With these changes they have also solved some of the problems and bugs which were in some of the earlier versions of the MLB 2k games.

Evan Longoria, 3rd baseman of the Tampa Bay Rays, who is on the cover for Major League Baseball 2K10 said, "Every baseball fan knows pitching a perfect game is one of the most difficult and rarest accomplishments in all of sports, and that's what makes this million dollar contest so compelling. This is the chance of a lifetime, and I'm excited to see fans really try to go for it in Major League Baseball 2K10."

To win the one million dollars, the player must play MLB2k10 in the MLB Today mode and select from any of the available matchups. The gamer will then choose the option to participate in the 'Major League Baseball 2K10 contest' that will automatically default to the proper gameplay settings and rules. (such as All-Star difficulty). The game must be recorded and submitted in its entirety for verification. The contest will only run for 2 months, between its release date of March 2, 2010 until May 2, 2010.

Maybe in the long run, all those hours I've played video games won't be wasted after all.
