Pitfalls for Online Gamblers

Scott Levinson
Online gambling allows players incredible convenience. No longer must players trudge out to the casino. They can literally roll out of bed and play. Like most good things in life, however, there is a flip side to that coin. Having so many gambling options at your fingertips is often times more dangerous than it is convenient.

The Different Dynamics Between Live And Online Gaming
Before the onset of online gambling, your gaming sessions were a group of different occurrences spread out over time. With online gaming, it's a continuum. It takes a different kind of discipline to make it work. You used to go the casino and eventually you would leave. With online gambling, you never really leave the casino. Your life is basically a casino now and it requires more discretion.

In the days of live casino gambling, there was finality to your sessions. Players were less likely to chase their losses. A poker player having a bad day would go home and not be tempted later to play video poker to recoup losses. A football bettor wouldn't be so quick to call his bookie after a losing weekend to place a double-or-nothing bet on an even money favorite running at Belmont. It would happen, but now it's exponentially easier to get into trouble.

All it takes now is a moment of indiscretion. Before online gambling it was just a little harder to be a screw-up.

Moving Away From Your Strengths
In the brick and mortar days, a poker player or sports bettor coming off a bad day would merely need to walk through the casino to avoid the pitfall of chasing with "pit" games. In this age of constant casino availability, it can call on all your inner resources to repel this urge. It is just easier to stick to your strengths in a live casino.

Even a disciplined player would get into trouble with other games if never allowed to leave the casino. That is basically the scenario facing online players. You never leave. This affects winning and losing players alike. Winning players might plop down $100 on video poker with the faulty reasoning they are playing with the house's money, and a losing player might start playing video blackjack to chase after a tough weekend.

Discipline is required in all forms of casino play, but if you have a difficult time controlling yourself in a live casino, you will stand little chance online.

Mixing Gambling With the Trials of Life

When you go to a casino, you are immersed in a world of gambling. At your home, however, it is impossible to completely ignore all the distractions. All forms of gambling require you to have all your wits about you. Regular life has a way of depleting the very mental processes you need to call upon to play successfully.

Imagine you are in the late stages of an online poker tournament facing an all-in decision when the doorbell rings and the dog starts going berserk. Someone screams out your name. Your laser focus has been diverted and now your decision-making skills are contaminated.

The balance is a difficult one. You cannot rightfully expect the world to stop spinning every time you play online. At the same time, you will not be able to operate at your full capacity if embroiled in household drama when you gamble. Again, the issue of discipline raises its head. You must only play when you have a reasonable expectation that you will be able to achieve the level of privacy and concentration that you will require to succeed.

If you are having a disagreement with a family member or significant other, the last thing you want to do is gamble. Unfortunately for online gamblers, their house is the frontline for these moments of domestic disharmony. Many players are unable to change or curtail their gambling activity based on these distractions and it is imperative that they do so.

Say for example you were planning on playing a big online tournament and ten minutes before the first hand, you get in an argument with your spouse. Develop the maturity needed to chalk it up to life and wait until the seas are calm at home before you play. Don't be bitter about it either. It borders on the absurd to expect your online gambling lifestyle to magically change everyone's personality.

Final Thoughts
Inevitably, you will need to avoid looking at online gambling as a 24-7 casino in your house. Online gambling should ideally be of great convenience for gamblers. Keep it that way. Do not allow its very virtues destroy you.

This is a good article. Unbiased and straightforward article about casino. It's just recently that I appreciate it when I joined Gamblux online casino and I'm now hooked with poker.
