Pittsburgh Guide: Top Three Pittsburgh Bars

Joyce Carole
Pittsburgh like most cities has no shortage of bars. Here is a list of the three Pittsburgh bars that are my personal favorites.

T.G.I. Fridays at the Pittsburgh Airport

As a busy mom of three boys, I am not one to frequent bars on a regular basis. T.G.I. Friday's which is located inside the Pittsburgh airport may very well be the Pittsburgh bar that I have visited the most over the years. I used to travel pretty frequently, and as frequent flyers know delays happen. T.G.I. Fridays may be a chain restaurant, but the bar at the Pittsburgh airport has the feel of a neighborhood bar.

T.G.I. Fridays in the Pittsburgh airport has a full menu of specialty drinks including margaritas and daiquiris. They also have several beers on tap and a few passable wines. Wine is typically my drink of choice. The Pittsburgh airport bar opens in the morning and remains open well into the late evening hours. The restaurant has a full menu with a wide variety of munchies. This is nice place to hang out with a margarita and a plate of nachos and shoot the breeze with other weary travelers.

Atria's in Mount Lebanon

Atria's has several locations throughout the Pittsburgh area, including one at PNC Park home of the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Mount Lebanon location is the original and this restaurant and bar has been open for several decades. The food at Atria's is good. I recommend the "pot roast nachos" and there is a rather extensive wine list. The bar at Atria's in Mount Lebanon is a nice place to hang out on a Friday night. It is one of the few Pittsburgh bars where those of us over the age of thirty don't feel out of place. Another great thing about the bar at Atria's is that it does not get too loud. You can actually carry on a conversation with your friends. Happy hours are Monday through Friday from 5:00 until 7:00. There is occasional entertainment and Thursday night is "martini night". This is the Pittsburgh bar I head to for those much too infrequent "girls night out".

Sonoma Grill, Pittsburgh's Cultural District

The Sonoma Grill adjoins a boutique hotel in Pittsburgh's cultural district. The ambience of this upscale "wine bar" along with the location in the heart of Pittsburgh's cultural districts makes it one of my favorite Pittsburgh bars. Here you can sit at the Tuscan style bar and enjoy some of the best wines available in Pittsburgh. This is a great place to stop either before or after a show at the nearby Benedum Center or Heinz Hall. The Sonoma Grill is also a Happy Hour hot spot for Pittsburgh professionals. The Sonoma Grill features California eclectic cuisine and valet parking is available.

There are many more great Pittsburgh bars. These are the three that I frequent (albeit very rarely as of late). If you are new to the Pittsburgh area and looking for a great bar to hang out you should enjoy these three fine Pittsburgh bars.

You know, I don't do the bars anymore but once in a while, I have my husband take me out just to see what is going on. At the end of the evening, I look up at him and really I've not been missing all that much and we go back home :) cheers!
