One of the BEST Guitar Players to Ever Call Pittsburgh, PA His Home, Dies of Cancer, at 52

David Lindberg
Way too young for anyone to leave this world, but when that person possesses a "gift" unlike most others, passes away, it is truly a loss to everyone. Glenn Pavone, 52 years young, passed away after a long and courageous battle with cancer, on Monday night, August 9, 2010.

Glenn Pavone was first known for his early years of playing lead guitar for Billy Price and the Keystone Rhythm Band. Later, Glenn began his solo career as "Glenn Pavone and the Cyclones" and has a huge fan base in the entire Pittsburgh and surrounding area.

Glenn Pavone has been battling health issues for a few years, and then cancer was discovered in 2008. Glenn seemed to be making a comeback and feeling well enough to play in the Pittsburgh Blues Festival in 2009. His appearance was thinner, but his "gift" was no less.

Glenn possessed something more than just being an amazing guitar player. There was actually a presence you felt when he was around that you knew you were playing with a legend. As a musician in the Pittsburgh area myself for the last 40 years, I had a couple of occasions to jam with Glenn through my relationship with Cyclones drummer, Frank Sprentz. Frank and I played together in bands since we were 16 years old. I can tell you first hand, that you felt Glenn's gentle and humble personality when you talked with him. He was always the first to say how good he thought the other musicians were, as if HE was the one who was impressed, while you were thinking..."I'm playing with a one of a kind musician!"

I think that was Glenn's true gift to those who knew him. He first amazed you with his natural gift of music, but he left you feeling as if you just met a good man.

Musicians and Blues lovers all around who knew of Glenn Pavone will truly miss this man, this guitar hero, this "good man"!

Thanks so much for reading and your comments! He could have easily been nationally known, but was happy playing in Pittsburgh, PA.
