Pittsburgh to Honor Steelers with Parade

Beginning at noon Tuesday, the city of Pittsburgh will give a victory parade to honor their Pittsburgh Steelers victory in Super Bowl XLIII; and what a victory it was. Not only did the Pittsburgh Steelers win 27-23, but they won the Super Bowl for the sixth time. They are the only team in Super Bowl history to accomplish such a achievement. And if that's not enough reason to celebrate; the 100-yard interception run for a touchdown by James Harrison was another first.

According to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review (Associated Press), "The parade will begin at the intersection of Grant and Seventh Streets, loop the Boulevard of the Allies, and end at Stanwix Street where a stage celebration will be held." This is approximately the same route taken for their St. Patrick's Day Parade.

This will be a parade not quite like any other. There will be everything that other parades have, including a Color Guard and an Honor Guard, but the really cool thing is, there will be six marching bands from six different high schools, representing each of the Pittsburgh Steelers Super Bowl victories.

The last time the city of Pittsburgh gave a parade for their Pittsburgh Steelers was in 2006, where an estimated 250,000 people attended the celebration. City officials are estimating that well over half a million people will attend this year's victory parade. City officials are asking that everyone that can, please use public transportation. If you must drive, you will need to park well outside the downtown area. Officials are also telling people who will be attending the parade to plan ahead, as there will not be porta-johns or other conveniences along the way.

The city of Pittsburgh will be saying, "Well Done," with this parade, but I can almost guarantee that football fans will be talking about Super Bowl XLIII and the Pittsburgh Steeler's victory for years to come.
