Why Has the Pittsburgh Marathon Become so Popular?
According to an article published recently in the Wall Street Journal, marathons across the country have seen a resurgence in popularity. Many believe that part of the resurgence in popularity can be attributed to the economic downturn. Due to the current recession there are more people laid off from work who therefore have more time that they can devote to extracurricular activities liking running. In addition, the recession has put added stress on people, and running is one way to alleviate that type of stress. Whatever the reason, the Pittsburgh Marathon had a record 16,000 participants and the rainy Pittsburgh weather did little to dampen their spirits.
